My first love is of thrown, functional pottery. I endeavour to make useful wares that can become part of day to day life and ritual. Form and function need to balance and to really nail it, it’s gotta feel good in the hands. I like to watch people buy my work and the process with which they often do it, feeling and weighing a mug or bowl in their hands.
It’s exactly how I like to buy.
In making, I enjoy the dichotomy of having a measure of control when throwing, then the journey through an inner resistance to giving up utter control when offering my work to the kiln. Potters lives are governed by the whims of the kiln gods and one has to reconcile and learn from what is borne out of the fire!
I am a member of Turning Earth Studios, Hoxton, London and associate member of the Craft Potters Association
